Recognising your reasons for moving forward with a new build and identifying your future plans helps you develop a design brief that your designer, architect or builder can turn into viable house plans. They do have different meanings however, with the latter being a scale drawing of one floor of a building, whilst a new house plan is a full set of construction plans for a building. The latter includes floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications for construction.
Think about the time you presently spend in certain rooms in your home, and why. Some families like to make the kitchen the focal point for daily family gatherings and would require a large sunny eat-in kitchen with lots of space; others prefer a den or family room with lots of room for large sofas and a fireplace.
